Preservation Information
142087 was the 25th Class 142 to be preserved (in 2021). It was purchased tactically by the Wensleydale Railway originally as a source of spare parts and/or possible resale to further parties. Its last home was at Heaton (Newcastle) under Northern Rail before preservation and movement to the Wensleydale Railway. It entered preservation under its own power, utilising their active mainline connection. Its transfer brought the number of preserved Class 142's on the line to seven.

As originally intended, 142087 was quickly sold on to another party.

During early 2023 it was revealed that 142087 & 142090 were involved in a departmental testing project trailing dry ice rail head treatment equipment. By spring the set was being used internally on the Wensleydale Railway for testing.

Future Plans
142087 will be tested on the Wensleydale Railway and future plans involve later testing on the national network. 142087's future after the trails remains unclear.
